The Professional Association of Wilderness Guides and Instructors (PAWGI) is a not-for-profit professional association federally incorporated in Canada under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. The organization establishes standards and certifications specific to wilderness guiding and instructions, and trains as well as certifies wilderness professionals in various countries around the world.

Becoming a PAWGI Professional

Successful completion of the Certified Assistant Guide (CAG) certification, Certified Wilderness Guide (CWG) certification, Certified Specialized Guide (CSG) certification, Certified Wilderness Instructor (CWI) certification, or Certified Wilderness Instructor Trainer (CWIT) certification is required in order to become a PAWGI Professional.

Privileges

PAWGI Professionals may exercise the privileges of their level of certification, while enjoying professional recognition.

They have access to PAWGI resources both online and offline. They may also use the PAWGI logo for marketing purposes, and they may display their certification level on any personal or business letterhead, business card, brochure, pamphlet or web site. As members of a professional association, they are also encouraged to add their level of qualification after their name. For example: John Doe, CWIT.

Referrals

PAWGI Professionals may also be referred to members of the public seeking the services of a professional wilderness guide or instructor in their area of residence or travel.

Geographic Area

It is not necessary to reside or operate in Canada to become a PAWGI Professional. Canadian wilderness expertise is universal, and as result, many PAWGI Professionals live and operate in various other countries around the world, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Nepal, India, Malaysia, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Spain, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Kenya, and South Africa.
